Making custom DDR charts isn't the only thing you can do with StepMania - you can also create the graphics for your simfiles as well! I am proud to say that I do my own StepMania graphics. The current chart has four difficulties, ranging from nice and simple to totally challenging! With some more love and labor, I finally finished the no-longer-"stinky off-sync-y" chart! Luckily, a Skype chat with another friend of mine (who does not have a DeviantArt account although.funny story, I actually thought, a user here, was this friend at first glance ) helped me discover that there is an option when editing StepMania charts to turn on "assist ticks" that make a clapping sound whenever an arrow is supposed to be stomped on. In other words, there were arrows coming on the wrong beats of the song, making the chart rather confusing. Turns out I didn't even know what a good StepMania chart was, because the chart was SO HORRIBLY OFF-SYNC. It took me five days of love and hard labor to make it, including having to deal with an entire chart failing to save and a glitched second chart for one of its difficulties appearing out of the blue, and I thought it was /good/. So, I decided to do a personal favorite Pop'n Music song of mine - "Airport Shuttle" by Chilt Featuring AquesTone. DDR a reality with StepMania - it even allows you to add background videos and dancing characters to the game! ) (See what I mean, Amphitrite7? You could make Warner Bros. You see, one of the best things about StepMania is being able to turn ANY SONG YOU WANT into a custom DDR song - just as long as you have an MP3 or OGG file of the song. I am currently on Weight Watchers and it is helping me however, this would count as the only "true" form of exercise I do aside from playing sports in gym class at school, and walking, because I personally show a strong dislike towards sports.Īfter getting used to just playing StepMania songs, I decided I should actually create a chart for a song. StepMania can be played with a computer keyboard, an Xbox or any other video game controller, or even a real DDR pad! I currently use computer keyboard arrow keys to play StepMania, but I plan on getting a dance pad for the holidays so I can use StepMania as a way to lose weight.
I got the hang of the gameplay pretty quickly - within one day, I could clear songs up to the medium difficulty level and I could clear some songs on the hard difficulty level the next day I played it. SZ64saulius was so kind as to give me a "starter pack" of songs I like and things he made for StepMania, along with some other links to song packs, note skins and themes which I plan on downloading along the line. I have been informed that StepMania 5 is a bit harder to operate and requires a bit more patience than 3.9.
I would recommend version 3.9 for beginners, and then to download version 5 down the line once you really get the feel of the program. It is not the newest version that would be StepMania 5. The version I downloaded was version 3.9, which was recommended to me by SZ64saulius and Brotha for its simplicity of use. I've known about StepMania since around 2008 however, I did not actually make the decision to download it on November 27, 2016. You stomp on arrows to the beat of a song using a dance pad with 4 arrows on it - up, down, left, and right. If you don't know what Dance Dance Revolution is, it's basically a rhythm game that is played with your feet.
I really appreciate all your support!!ĪND, last but not least, someone who cheered me on who does not have an account on this site and will be referred to only as "Brotha".įor those who do not know, StepMania is a free simulator of Dance Dance Revolution for your computer.
,, , and because I know you guys own StepMania and may be interested in my files.īecause I feel that once you read this journal, you'll be intrigued by the concept of StepManiaįor being SUCH a big help and encouragement to me with StepMania! Honestly, if it weren't for you, I might've even never downloaded StepMania. Before I begin, though, I have some people I'd like to give shout-outs to:įor making super-rad and HI-LA-RI-OUS StepMania charts! In fact, I even named this journal after one of my favorite StepMania song packs of yours, second only to the "Warning!!" pack. Beep boop.HELLO DARLING!! Have I told you about my latest obsession yet? It's called "StepMania", and it's a free computer game that seemed pretty simple at first, but turned out to be rather complex.
